Baghdad council: Tamimi has 15 days to challenge dismissal decision

Baghdad Governor Ali al-Tamimi
Ali al-Tamimi, the fired governor of Baghdad, has just 15 days to challenge his dismissal decision before the administrative court, the city's provincial council said on Thursday.

"If no challenge was filed, a new governor would be chosen," Nuri al-Jasim, the council's member, said.

The court should decide on the challenge within 30 days, he added.

Al-Tamimi was ousted by Baghdad Council earlier in the day.

Commenting on the decision, Tamimi said his dismissal was illegal.

Baghdad Council has voted for sacking Tamimi after he failed to respond to questions raised by the council over corruption charges.

Al-Ahrar Bloc, an affiliate of the Sadrist Movement at Baghdad Council, left the council session in rejection of the dismissal vote.
