Death toll from the the clashes between Iraqi police and protesters in As-Samawah city, 280 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, has jumped to three killed and 160 injured, medical and security sources told the Baghdad Post on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Iraq's High Commission for Human Rights has formed a crisis cell to follow up on the latest developments of the current protests in southern provinces.
The protests that hit various Iraqi provinces prompted the Iraqi security authorities to impose curfew in Basra, Najaf and Karbala provinces.
The wide-spread protests left three killed and 65 injured, medical and security sources said.
The mass demonstrations and sit-ins protest shortage of jobs, electricity, water and basic services.
Some demonstrators broke into and attacked several local government headquarters in these provinces during the current period.
