Kurdish MP Ashwaq al-Jaff has called for staging a real revolution against corruption by holding corrupt officials accountable for their crimes and bringing them to justice.
In a press statement issued Tuesday, al-Jaff said corruption is rampant in all government departments.
It is one of the main challenges facing Iraq in case the country is not serious about holding corrupt officials accountable for their crimes, she noted.
The exacerbating political rifts will create a gap which terrorists will exploit. This has happened when ISIS seized large swathes of Iraq in 2014, she further stated.
Iraq will witness an upheaval at the political and security levels as well as conflicts and slogans that are divorced from reality prior to the parliamentary election, the Kurdish MP added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has launched an anti-corruption campaign, confirming that a large list of corrupt officials announcement will be announced ahead of the upcoming elections.
He also has begun a series of talks and discussions with many countries and the Interpol to help Iraq in curbing corruption.
The counter corruption operations will include experts from the UN who are specialized in investigating financial fraud.
