The Da’wa Party has decided to contest the upcoming elections with two electoral lists, one of them is headed by the incumbent premier Haider al-Abadi and the other will be headed by former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki, well-informed sources revealed Sunday.
The sources said that Abadi-led list is titled "Victory and Reform" while Maliki-led list is titled "Da'wa Party."
The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) said it is continuing to register parties and political entities and grant them establishment permits so that they can take part in the upcoming elections.
Two hundred and four parties were registered as of December 26th.
The parliamentary election is scheduled for May 12th 2018.
However, Sunni parties have called for postponing the election in order to have better representation.
They also called for delaying it until displaced persons return to the districts recently recaptured from ISIS while Shia parties rejected the postponement of election for fear it will cause constitutional vacuum.
