Declaring final victory over ISIS 'electoral propaganda’ – MP

Haider al-Abadi

Declaring the final victory over ISIS and creating an official holiday to mark this occasion is a premature move. It has been taken by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for the purposes of electoral propaganda, Hushyar Abdullah, a member of the security and defense committee in the parliament, revealed Sunday.

Abdullah wrote on Facebook on Sunday that ISIS is capable of opening new battlefronts in Iraq.

The terror group has not been eliminated yet as al-Abadi claims, he noted.

ISIS can wage guerrilla warfare on the security forces. The domestic and foreign reasons that led to the emergence of ISIS still persist in Iraq and the region, he noted.

The political failures in Iraq are at their worst level. The conspiracies that are being hatched against the country are larger, making the emergence of other terrorist groups constant.

This comes after Iraq has announced that its war against ISIS is over.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told a conference in Baghdad that Iraqi troops were now in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border.

The border zone contained the last few areas ISIS held, following its loss of the town of Rawa in November.
