Turning Kirkuk into an independent region is unacceptable, said Mullah Bakhtiar, senior official within the ranks of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said on Friday.
In a press statement on the sidelines of the ceremonials held to mark 40th days since the demise of former Iraqi president Galal Talabani, he said any military triumph that is achieved through conspiring could not impose political or administrative realities.
In response to recent calls for declaring Kirkuk as an independent region, he said:"As long as there are patriotic Kurds, this proposal won't follow through."
It is better to sit down around the negotiating table, and all parties resort to the constitution.
It is worth mentioning that there are calls by Turkmen leaders to establish an independent region which includes Kirkuk, Tal Afar and Tuz Khurmatu.
