Karbala governor rejects opening Iranian telecommunication network

Iranians in Karabla

Karbala governor Aqeel al-Turaihi informed Iran on Sunday that he does not approve of opening an Iranian Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) or a telecommunications and internet network in the governorate without the consent of federal government.

Tehran has planned to provide these services to meet the needs of Iranian visitors who travel to Iraq to observe the Arba'een, a Shiite Muslim religious observance that occurs forty days after the Day of Ashura.

The Arba’een commemorates the martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBU), who was killed on the 10th day of the month of Muharram.

Iranian authorities send hundred thousand Iranians to Iraq annually under the pretext of observing the Arba’een to carry out terror attacks and assassinations in the country to sabotage its national security.
