Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) senior figure Qassem Soleimani said Thursday his country would invade Kurdistan territories in case the region's independence referendum was held as scheduled.
The Kurdistan referendum is slated to be held September 25th.
Iran along with other regional powers including Turkey oppose the referendum.
But Presdient Massoud Barzani stressed teh region would press up with teh referendum despite pressures.
Soleimani, leader of al-Quds Brigade, threatened the Iranian army would occupy the Kurdistan territories it occupied during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.
