Kurdistan Region president Massoud Barzani said Wednesday that the independence referendum is the choice of all Kurds, adding that no force will ever make us give up this choice.
Speaking at a gathering of pro-referendum Kurds in Akre district, "Those who want to test the strong will of Kurdish people are invited to do", in a clear reference that the referendum will be held as scheduled on September 25th.
"All bids for real partnership with Iraq have failed, they have to ask themselves why they failed," Barzani said.
"We have been aspiring to independence for the last 100 years, if they have a substitute for this, they tell us and we will accept it," he added.
Barzani described Kurdish people' calls for independence as "sources of happiness for Kurdish martyres" and a means o overcome "bad memories of chemical attacks and arsons against Kurdistan's villages".
