Two brigades of the Iraqi border guards are now managing al-Waleed border crossing and the borderline with Syria, a security source in Anbar Governorate said on Sunday.
Security forces announced on Saturday recapturing of al-Waleed border crossing on the Syrian-Iraqi border, confirming its control over Iraq-Jordan-Syria border triangle.
Recapturing the border crossing came after launching a wide-range military operation against ISIS. Border guards have participated in this operation backed by the Iraqi Air Force and US-led Coalition.
The source noted that the forces have also controlled the borderline between al-Waleed and Traibil border crossings, adding that other forces are heading towards al-Qaim border crossing to control it.
Al-Waleed is close to Tanf, a strategic Syrian border crossing with Iraq on the Baghdad-Damascus highway, where US forces have assisted Syrian rebels trying to recapture the territory from ISIS.
US forces have been based at Tanf since last year, in effect preventing Iranian-backed forces (IMIS) supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from receiving heavy weaponry from Iran by using the main highway between Iraq and Syria.
