Lawmakers seek to keep Abdul Latif Al-Humim as head of Sunni Waqf

Sunni Waqf chief under fire
A number of Iraqi lawmakers are rallying support inside the parliament to keep Abdul Latif Al-Humim as chief of the Sunni Waqf (endowment) in the country, sources told the Baghdad Post.

The move comes after the harsh criticism leveled at Al-Humim recently.

Over 25 lawmakers started a campaign not to unseat the incumbent chief of Sunni Waqf after calls for his resignation emerged, the sources added.

Uniters for Reform (Muttahidoon) Coalition has strongly attacked Al-Humim as he ordered grilling a preacher who spoke out against the Shiite Waqf's seizing of several Sunni mosques in Baghdad and other provinces.
