UNSC to convene emergency meeting on Mosul

UNSC convenes meeting on Mosul
At the request of Russia, UN security council (UNSC) will convene an emergency meeting to discuss the latest developments in Iraq's city of Mosul.

Russia has called for a meeting on the situation in Mosul, and it has the right to do so and we await this debate, the UK's permanent representative to the United Nations, Matthew Rycroft, said in a press statement in March.

He told Russian news agency of TASS that the upcoming meeting will be a closed-door one, and it will start at 4 PM New York local time.

Mosul, a major Iraqi city once fully controlled by ISIS terror group, is a spot where forces from Iraq and other allied countries, as well as IMIS militias, are battling to push the terror group out of the city.

This came upon the announcement of Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi on February 19 that Iraq is launching an operation to liberate the western half of the city from the clutches of the terror group.
