Saudi kills three smugglers, wounds two on Yemeni borders, 30 arrested

Saudi security forces announced  they foiled on Sunday attempts to implant landmines on borders with Yemen and smuggle weapons, ammunition and drugs, The Baghdad Post reported.

In a statement, spokesman for the Saudi Interior Ministry said, " The forces on the borders with Yemen managed during the period from March 10 until Saturday to foil several attempts to implant land mines and smuggle weapons, ammunition and more than half a ton of hashish".

The statement carried by the Saudi official news agency (SPA) revealed an exchange of fire had killed three smugglers and wounded two others with no casualties in the Saudi forces.  

"Within these operations eight land mines and 23 pieces of different weapons, and thousands of live shots, and 607 kilograms of hashish were seized," the statement read. 

The statement added 30 smugglers-including 19 Ethiopians, seven Yemenis, three Saudis, and an unidentified person-were arrested during the operation.  

The forces also arrested 1265 attempting to infiltrate the Saudi territories , including 847 Yemenis, 309 Ethiopians and 16 Somalis, the statement read.
