Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir
Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that Saudi Arabia asked to prevent issuing any statements before the visit made by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir to Iraq on Saturday.

In a statement released on Saturday, Iraqi Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Jamal said contacts have been underway with the Saudi side especially in the wake Iraq's request to replace Saudi Ambassador to Iraq Thamer al-Sabhan.

A number of meetings were held between the two Iraqi and Saudi foreign ministers on the sidelines of many international conferences in order to resolve several pending issues, Jamal said.

Iraq aims to build true and balanced relations with Saudi Arabia because of its key role  regionally and internationally, he explained. Iraq is looking forward to distance itself from the polarization policy the region is currently suffering, he added.

The Saudi diplomat's talks in Iraq tackled means of rebuilding bilateral relations, the opening of Jemima border crossing, the resumption of civil aviation movement through direct air flights, the spokesman said.

The visit comes ahead of Saudi Arabia's announcement to name its new ambassador to Iraq, the spokesman noted, adding that Jubeir's surprise visit would give a positive push to a new phase of relations between the two countries.
