ISIS HQ, battalion destroyed in western Mosul

US-led coalition warplanes

The US-led coalition warplanes destroyed an ISIS headquarters and a battalion in western Mosul city, Iraqi Defense Ministry said on Friday.

In a press release, the ministry said that the jets, in coordination with the Iraqi General Directorate of Intelligence, shelled the ISIS positions located in Badush area of Nineveh governorate.

The battle for Mosul is the biggest ground operation in Iraq since the 2003 US-led invasion. A victory by the 100,000-strong US-backed pro-government force would probably spell the end for ISIS self-styled caliphate that has ruled over millions of people in Iraq and Syria since 2014.
