Military plans to liberate the western side of Mosul city were drawn up, Staff Lieutenant General Abdulwahab al-Saadi, a top commander in Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) said on Wednesday.

The Iraqi forces are awaiting orders from General Commander of the Armed Forces Haider al-Abadi to force their way into western Mosul, he added.

Fixed and mobile bridges have been set up across the Tigris River to allow the Iraqi troops to cross in preparation for an offensive on western districts of the city, he noted.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had confirmed on Tuesday that all of eastern Mosul has been recaptured from Islamic State.
