SLC member: Iraq's gov't decision to exempt Jordan's exports "wrong"

Iraqi MP
A Parliament member from the State of Law Coalition (SLC) has described as wrong the Iraqi government's decision to exempt Jordanian exports to Iraq from customs duties.

In a statement, Firdaus al-Awadi said the Iraqi government's decision is a big mistake as it comes at a time when the Iraqi state tries to cope with the steep fall in oil prices and bring in other revenues to bolster the state's budget.

Within the state's harsh economic circumstances, the Iraqi government should first seek the Parliament's opinion in such similar strategic economic decisions, she added.

The recent Iraqi-Jordanian agreement shows the government's weakness in dealing firmly with some cases, including the issue of exempting the Jordanian exports from customs duties and setting out a timetable for the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Iraq, she asserted.
