Journalist Afrah Shawqi: Kidnappers treated me well

Iraqi journalist Afrah Shawqi spoke to media hours after she got released. She said her health is fine and that her kidnappers treated her well.

They interrogated me and then I was proven innocent, she said in statements to NRT channel, giving no further details about the identity of the kidnappers.

Iraqi journalist Afrah Shawqi, a reporter for al-Aalem al-Jadeed online newspaper, was kidnapped from her home in Baghdad by an unknown armed group.

Seven reporters died in Iraq in 2016, out of a total of 57 who died in conflict areas across the world, according to a recent report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
