Saray Al-Salam Brigades, upon orders from the Sadrist Trend Leader Muqtada al-Sadr, have beefed up their security and intelligence measures to follow the track of the abductors of Iraqi journalist Afrah Shawqi.
The Brigades have managed to detect the whereabouts of the gunmen and forced them to release her with the participation of government troops. Negotiations with the abductors' group have led to the release of the Iraqi journalists and her possessions and car were also restored.
Al-Sadr paid a visit to the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and met with its Head Moaid al-Lami and called for providing protection and support to journalists and free the hijacked journalist Afrah Shawqi.
Shawqi was kidnapped by masked gunmen from her home a week ago. She returned to her house at Al-Saydiya district in southern Baghdad.
Iraqi journalist Afrah Shawqi, a reporter for al-Aalem al-Jadeed online newspaper, was kidnapped from her home in Baghdad by an unknown armed group.
Seven reporters died in Iraq in 2016, out of a total of 57 who died in in conflict areas across the world, according to a recent report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
