Twelve TV and radio stations closed over 'inciting violence'

The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) has ordered closing 12 TV channels and four radio stations over "publishing content inciting violence" while covering of the nationwide anti-government protests.

According to news reports, five other TV channels were also threatened with closure, if they continue to "violate" articles of media licensing regulations. Those channels included Sharqiya, Al-Hadath, Dijla, Al-Arabiya, and Alhurra Iraq.

Similar actions, like cutting the access to internet, were recently taken by the government to put an end to the ongoing protests in Baghdad and other major provinces in the country.
