Earthquake hits northeastern Iran

An earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter scale jolted parts of Iran's northeastern province of Semnan on Saturday.

The tremor occurred at 00:36:48 local time (21:06:48 GMT Friday), according to a report by the Seismological Center. Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran.

The quake struck the village of Shahmirzad, north of Semnan, at a depth of 8 kilometers from the surface of the earth at 35.95 degrees north latitude and 53.31 degrees east longitude.

There were no reports of damage caused by the earthquake.
