Transport minister, US Deputy Ambassador discuss possibility of direct air link between Baghdad, Washington

Minister of Transport, Mr. Abdullah Laibi discussed with Deputy Chief of Mission at US Embassy in Baghdad Brian McFeeters to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries and expand the horizons of joint work in all fields of transport. 

According to a statement by the Ministry of Transport, the two sides discussed the need to activate air transport between the two countries through the opening of a direct air link between Baghdad and Washington. This will strengthen ties between the two sides in the transport sector. 

On the other hand, this line contributes to serving the Iraqi community living in the United States of America.

The minister said: "Iraqi Airways is contracted with the US company Boeing and has strong aircraft to enable them to travel long distances, and we have future plans to open several destinations directly to various countries of the world.

He stressed: "the Ministry is committed to the security precautions for airlines landing in America and that Iraq is ready to apply the required standards and security requirements in all its details.

For his part, McFeeters expressed his country's interest in cooperation with Iraq in the transport sector to serve the two countries.
