The security media cell announced on Saturday that eight ISIS terrorists were killed in western of Tikrit city.
In a statement, a copy of which was received by the Baghdad Post, the cell said that based on accurate intelligence information, joint forces from the 27th Brigade of the 14th Division in Salahuldin governorate, it managed to implement such a security operation to pursue ISIS remnants in Siniya Island in western Tikrit.
The operation resulted in the killing of eight ISIS terrorists following an air strike launched by the US-led coalition.
Three ISIS hideouts were also destroyed during the raid.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of ISIS militants
who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
Iraq declared the collapse of ISIS’s territorial influence in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.
