Iran talks about meeting on JCPOA in New York next Wednesday

Kazem Gharibabadi, Permanent Representative of Iran to international organizations based in Vienna said that there is great potential for a ministerial meeting on the JCPOA on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next Wednesday.

"The foreign ministers of the signatories to the nuclear deal are there and there is a great possibility of a meeting, so let's wait and see what happens in New York," Gharibabadi said, according to news agency Khabar Online.

For his part, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs - Mohammad Javad Zarif said from New York: "next Wednesday there will be a meeting of the Joint Committee on the nuclear agreement at the ministerial level." "We will meet with each minister from the Group of 4 + 1 separately," he said.

Zarif said talking about the possibility of US participation in the meeting: "No proposal has been made in this regard. We have made it quite clear that there is a negotiating table and that the Americans have left."

He continued: "Nothing is impossible in diplomacy, but in the current situation, it seems unlikely that this meeting will be held with the participation of the United States."

No US official has spoken of the possibility of a US representative attending joint meetings on the future of the nuclear deal, which Washington withdrew in May last year.
