mortar shells, purportedly fired by ISIS militants, occurred in and around a
village in Khanaqin district on Saturday night as clashes between security
forces and militants took place, local sources said.
Five out of a total of 12 mortar shells fired had exploded upon impact, the sources said, adding that the incidents reportedly occurred in and around the village of Mubarak, north of Khanaqin city, in Diyala province.
ISIS was behind the shelling, the sources said without giving further details.
Heavy clashes broke out in the surrounding area between Iraqi troops and a group of gunmen from the terror group, locals said.
