13th round of Astana Talks to be held next August

For the first time, Iraq and Lebanon will participate in the 13th round of Astana talks on Syria, which will be held in the Kazakh capital of Nur Sultan in early August, Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry said.

"The event is scheduled to be attended by the sponsor countries of the Syrian cause: Iran, Russia and Turkey, Syrian government and armed opposition groups,” the ministry statement added.

The ministry added, "Senior observers from the United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq will assist in holding the talks."

The meeting will discuss the latest developments in Syria, especially in Idlib and the northeast of the country, as well as the subsequent measures to strengthen confidence between the conflicting parties and push forward the political process, including issues of forming and launching the constitutional committee work, the statement said.
