Communications Ministry responsible for poor internet in Iraq: Par'l

The Iraqi Parliamentary Services Committee announced Saturday granting Minister of Communications Naeem Thjeel al-Rubaie until the end of July to improve internet and telecommunication services in the country.

The committee further held the Ministry of Communications responsible for the deterioration in internet services.

In earlier press remarks, Rubaie said the cost of the smuggled volume of internet capacity is about $3.5 million per month just from Kirkuk, Mosul and parts of the outskirts of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Rubaie explained that the smuggling is done through cutting the internet's optical cable when entering the border ports, whether land or sea, through the portal.

The Iraqi communications minister pointed out that this is happening because of lack of control and leniency with smugglers, comparing the work of the groups behind this to the actions of ISIS, as these groups work against Iraq and try to sabotage the country.
