Former Iraqi PM says foreign interference 'plague' behind regional crises

Iraqi lawmaker and former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi has said foreign interference in the region is the plague that causes all the crises.

Allawi’s remarks came as he met Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri at the Grand Serail in Beirut.

The meeting took place to discuss mutual relations between Iraq and Lebanon, especially economic cooperation.

Allawi further stressed that all regional powers must come together to stand against foreign interference, which he described as the plague that causes all the regional crises.

He also urged countries to stand firmly against all foreign interference in their internal affairs.

In April, Allawi urged political parties to hold a national dialogue to "salvage Iraq" and face regional and international challenges.

Allawi heads the al-Wataniya (National) coalition with 21 deputies represented in the Iraqi Parliament.
