MP for the State of law Coalition Mansour al-Baiji urged the Iraqi government to arrest Najmaldin Karim, the former Kirkuk governor, after arriving to Erbil from Lebanon.

The Iraqi authorities earlier accused Karim of money-laundering cases outside Iraq, as well as corruption charges during his tenure as governor of Kirkuk.

"The federal government must have a serious and clear position towards the return of the former governor of Kirkuk to the Kurdistan region," Baiji said, urging the Anti-Corruption Council formed by Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi to perform its responsibility.

He also called on the government to introduce Karim to the judiciary to receive his fair punishment.

Karim was arrested earlier this year by the security authority at the Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport, upon orders from the Interpol.
