Iranian journalist says Iran behind attack in Gulf of Oman

Prominent Iranian journalist and political analyst Amir Taheri said Iran was behind the attack on the two oil carries in the Gulf of Oman.

In press remarks, he added that the attack was carried out in Iranian territorial waters, and if anyone claimed that another country carried out the attack, it indicates the inefficiency of the Iranian military forces that were unable to protect the country's borders near Iran's largest military base. Saudi Arabia's crown prince has directly blamed arch-rival Iran for attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

Prince Muhammad bin Salman told the press that Saudi Arabia "won't hesitate to deal with any threat" against its people or interests.

"We do not want a war in the region...But we won't hesitate to deal with any threat to our people, our sovereignty, our territorial integrity and our vital interests," he said.

Tensions have risen to new heights after two recent attacks on shipping in the Persian Gulf region -- both of which the United States and its Persian Gulf allies, including Saudi Arabia, have blamed on Iran.
