Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has commented on Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamed Javad Zarif’s remarks on expediting the Iranian nuclear program, saying Zarif is lying.
Netanyahu said “Iran is the one that openly threatens, every day, to destroy the State of Israel. Iran continues to entrench itself militarily in Syria. And today, the IAEA reports that Iran is accelerating its nuclear program,” Netanyahu said in a tweet.
“I repeat: Israel will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons that threaten our existence and endanger the entire world,” he added.
During a press conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas, Zarif said Iran proved commitment toward the nuclear agreement, adding that this was confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Zarif claimed that the Iranian steps are legal and based on the nuclear agreement, expressing hopes that efforts by Germany and other parties within the agreement become fruitful.
However, IAEA expressed concerns regarding the ongoing tensions on the Iranian nuclear issue after Tehran said it no longer respects some restrictions mentioned in the 2015 agreement.
