President Barham Salih stressed Iraq's keenness to adopt constructive dialogue while tackling the crises in the region instead of war policies, noting that Iraq's stance toward regional crises stems from the commitment to its national policies.

Salih held a meeting with Joey Hood, US chargé d'affaires in Iraq, where they discussed the latest political developments at regional and international levels, a statement by Salih's office said.

The president highlighted the importance of keeping Iraq away of the repercussions of conflicts and crises, in accordance with its national interests of stability and prosperity.

Salih stressed the need to establish a stable regional system based on common security, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs of others, noting the importance of building balanced relations with all countries on the basis of respect for sovereignty and mutual interests.

During the meeting, the two sides also emphasized the depth of relations between Iraq and the US.

The US administration decided to adjourn additional sanctions aimed at Iran's petrochemical sector in efforts to curb ongoing tensions with Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
