The US administration decided to adjourn additional sanctions aimed at Iran's petrochemical sector in efforts to curb ongoing tensions with Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Sources familiar with the matter said that the US Department of Treasury had planned new, tougher sanctions in May.

Reportedly, these new punitive measures could still be set in motion and include a detailed list of Iran-based companies which would be blacklisted from doing business with any other companies.

The US has recently toughened its stance toward Iran, accusing it of sabotage of oil infrastructure in the Arabian Gulf, ramping up its military presence, and targeting its metals sector.
