source revealed a high-level mediation by the Kurdistan Democratic Party to
release former Kirkuk Governor Najmaldin Karim, who is detained in Beirut.
High-level officials in the Kurdistan region and the leadership of the KDP have contacted officials in Baghdad and Beirut to release the former governor, the source added.
A senior security source said Tuesday that Karim was arrested at the Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport. Lebanon Debate reported that the security authority in the airport acted according to orders from INTERPOL.
