Iraqi MP Hussein al-Ekabi said that the Iraqi national
economy has been targeted in the past few months by systematic terrorist
campaigns and crimes, which have sought to disrupt food security.
Ekabi mentioned campaigns targeting fish production, referring to the incident when thousands of tons of fish were poisoned after the increase in the rate of national production of fish and the expansion of fish farms.
He also mentioned overwhelming the market with imported eggs although the national production of eggs have reached an unprecedented rates.
These attempts were totally uncovered after thousands of hectares of wheat and barley fields were burned, Ekabi added.
Ekabi considered the reactions of the government as "too shy" and are not enough for such crimes. He called on the government in this regard to investigate these crimes, find out the perpetrators, and announce the investigation's results in a quick, transparent and courageous way.
He also called on the government to intensify efforts to prevent the recurrence of such serious crimes.
