Iraq's Council of Ministers' Border Port Commission announced on Sunday an
Iraqi-Kuwaiti agreement to build the Safwan Border Crossing and provide
infrastructure required for the operation of the border crossing.
The
Iraqi-Kuwaiti high joint ministerial committee held its seventh meeting on Saturday
in Kuwait; the Iraqi delegation was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed
al-Hakim, accompanied with heads of some authorities and the head of the Border
Port Commission.
The
two sides agreed that the Kuwaiti side would build the Safwan Border Crossing as
a Kuwaiti grant, and provide the necessary operational infrastructure, a
statement by the Border Port Commission read.
A
memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti sides,
to define the obligations of both sides concerning the work of the port,
according to the statement.
