Head of the Reform and Reconstruction Alliance Ammar al-Hakim affirmed the neutrality of Iraq and the independence of the country's decision.
During his meeting with acting US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfieldhis, Hakim affirmed Iraq's rejection to be a starting point to attack others, a statement by Hakim's office said Thursday.
Hakim and Satterfield, during their meeting in the former's office, discussed the latest political situation in Iraq and the region, and relations between Iraq and the US.
Hakim stressed Iraq's openness to the region and the world and its serious efforts to establish balanced relations based on common interests.
He also highlighted the importance of avoiding escalation due to its serious repercussions that negatively affect the peoples of the region, calling for a comprehensive dialogue to resolve the outstanding problems.
