Russian Deputy Prime
Minister Yury Borisov affirmed his country's keenness to deepen its ties with
Iraq and increase trade exchange. He also urged for cooperation in the fields
of industry, car assembly cars and joint production inside Iraqi soil.
This came during his meeting with Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi in Baghdad on Friday.
Borisov also affirmed readiness to cooperation in the construction and modernization of power plants, and also in the fields of oil, gas, agriculture, transportation, communications, water and infrastructure.
During the meeting, Abd al-Mahdi affirmed Iraq's appreciation for the strategic, political and economic partnership with Russia.
Abd al-Mahdi expressed Iraq's willingness to benefit from the Russian experience besides Russia's economic, industrial, agricultural, military, energy, and oil and gas fields.
He also stressed Iraq's appreciation to the Russian role in strengthening security and stability in the region and supporting Iraq in its war against terrorism.
Meeting Iraqi FM
Iraq's Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Hakim and Borisov have signed a number of agreements as part of the eighth edition of the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee.
The two sides heading high-level delegations have signed agreements and memorandums in many fields including trade, mineral wealth, industry, telecommunications, and finance and banking, a statement by the Iraqi foreign ministry said.
The fields of cooperation also include energy, electricity information technology, transportation, agriculture, reconstruction, housing, health, sports, culture and tourism, education and cooperation in other areas, according to the statement.
Salih received Borisov at the Presidential Office in Baghdad on Wednesday. During the meeting, they discussed relations between the two friendly countries and ways of developing them in all fields, the Iraqi presidency said.
They also reviewed trade and economic cooperation in a way that achieves the common interests of the two friendly peoples.
The meeting also discussed the work of the Joint Iraqi-Russian Committee and the need to pursue jointly in order to ensure the success of its decisions by following up the signing of the reached agreements.
President Salih and Borisov reviewed the latest political developments at the Arab and international levels.
