1990s mass grave found in Iraq's Muthanna

A mass grave was discovered in the city of Samawah, the modern capital of the Al Muthanna Governorate, located midway between Baghdad and Basra, at the northern edge of the governorate.

Governor Ahmed Menfi has revealed that the mass grave contained bodies of Kurdish people executed by the former regime of Iraq in the 1990s, following the Kurdish uprising in 1991.

Menfi is currently supervising the exhuming process with a delegation from the Ministry of of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs.

According to the official statistics, the regional government of Kurdistan and the Iraqi Federal government have found 300 locations of mass graves in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
