Iraqi authorities have warned against the deteriorated situation of Mosul dam, saying it could fail to hold the water, especially that the amount of water reached the highest level in its history.
"We now have only two options. Either discharging the dam or it will collapse," authorities at the Mosul Dam said in a statement on Wednesday. "The dam cannot hold more water, so it may collapse if a bigger amount of water is not discharged."
The statement also warned that the surrounding cities, including the capital Baghdad, could be endangered , if more flow of water goes into the Tigris.
