Rapprochement between Baghdad, Tehran made Iraq subordinate: activist

Political activist Abdul Qader al-Nayel said that the Iraqi-Iranian rapprochement has weakened Iraq and made it subordinate to Tehran.

He also blamed the Iraqi consecutive governments of failing to perform their duties, saying that they could not properly manage the state, and stole the resources of the country.

Nayel also urged the Iraqi government to distance itself from the American-Iranian conflict, and to seek only the interests of Iraq.

Expressing the Iraqi government's keenness to strengthen its ties with Tehran, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Hakim described the Iraqi-Iranian relations as "strategic," saying that they are based on partnership and commercial, cultural, security and joint interests of both countries.
