Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has claimed that the Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) was the one that protected Sulaimaniya and Erbil provinces in Iraq’s Kurdistan against being occupied by ISIS.
IRGC was labelled by Washington on Monday as terrorist organization.
During a session at Iran’s parliament on Tuesday to tackle the US decision on IRGC, Rouhani said US seeks making up for its defeats through including IRGC on the terrorists list.
Moreover, Rouhani claimed that IRGC were behind protecting Sulaimaniya and Erbil from being captured by ISIS, as well as supporting peoples in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon against ISIS.
He went on saying that it’s IRGC that fights terrorism, supported by US and its allies in the region. He attacked Washington for using terrorism as a tool against the region’s peoples.
He concluded saying that the US will not manage to hinder Iran’s development in the nuclear, adding that Iran developed weapons that US could not even imaging.
IRGC was founded in Iran in 1979 as the first military power in Tehran.
