Qatar has paid several million Swiss francs to fund a mosque and Islamic centres projects in Switzerland, a recently published book revealed.
Published by two French journalists, Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot based their information mentioned in the book entitled “Qatar Papers” on internal documents leaked from Qatar Charity, an NGO funded by the Qatari royal family.
In an interview with Swiss TV RTS on Thursday, Malbourt said “Qatar is today a leading funder of Islam in Europe,” adding that the tiny emirate was doing this through a network of connections close to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Qatar Charity has funded 140 mosque and Islamic center projects in Europe to the tune of €71 million (nearly US$80 million). Around 50 projects were in Italy, the book revealed.
In Switzerland, the NGO provided more than €3.6 million between 2011 and 2014 for five projects by Muslim organizations, according to “Qatar Papers”.
