Ayad Allawi, head of Al-Wataniya (National) Coalition warned against unannounced economic agreements between Iraq and Iran, adding that they may harm Iraq and put it in confrontation with the US.

Iran will open three industrial centers in Iraq upon a request by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during his recent visit to Baghdad, which is a breach of the embargo on Iran, Allawi said. He added that such move can cause Iraq to face tough sanctions that would harm its economy.

Iraq and Iran signed several preliminary trade deals earlier in March, Iraqi officials said, as Rouhani visited Iraq, seeking to bolster Tehran’s influence and expand commercial ties to help offset renewed US sanctions.

The deals, among them a plan to build a railway linking the neighbors, emerged soon after the start of Rouhani’s visit, meant to underline that Tehran still plays a dominant role in Iraq despite US efforts to isolate Iran.
