Kuwaiti, Iraqi officials meet over preparations for higher joint committee session

Nizar Khairallah

Kuwaiti and Iraqi officials met on Tuesday for talks on several issues of mutual interest as well as preparations for the seventh session of the joint higher committee.

In remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah said that his current visit to Iraq was part of consultations and coordination between the two countries and follow-up on the talks, which took place last year in Kuwait during a visit by the Iraqi foreign undersecretary Nizar Khairallah.

Al-Jarallah expressed keenness on maintaining contacts between Iraq and Kuwait as well as building distinctive ties, based on solid foundations for the benefit of their peoples. He also added that the talks tackled unresolved issues in addition to preparations for the higher joint committee session, scheduled to take place in Kuwait in April.

Meanwhile, Khairallah confirmed that the Kuwaiti delegation mission in Baghdad is primarily designed to prepare for the upcoming mission meeting.

The discussions with the Kuwaiti delegation, according to Khairallah, handled future enterprises, commercial issues as well as economic integration between the two countries.

He also indicated political will to elevate bilateral relations.
