The Iraqi army on Friday sent a massive reinforcement to Sinun area of Sinjar to control the border crossing with Syria.
The deployment of additional troops and heavy arms to the border area comes days after deadly clashes erupted in the region between the Iraqi army and Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS), an armed group affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
The Iraqi army is planning to bring the border crossing fully under control while limiting the YBS’s influence in the area, according to local reports.
Earlier this week, Iraqi troops and YBS fighters clashed over the movement of some PKK members over the border. Three Iraqi soldiers were killed in the confrontation with several others were injured on both sides.
