Mamand, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) chief in Kirkuk, on
Wednesday called on the central government in Baghdad to normalize the
situation in Kirkuk and restore balance to the province.
"Kirkuk is a city of coexistence, peace, fraternity and harmony among all components," Mamand said, adding that Nowruz coincides with the anniversary of the liberation of Kirkuk from Ba'athist regime.
Mamand said that Iraq and Kurdistan are experiencing a sensitive stage, urging citizens to unite, respect the others' opinions and promote the coexistence among all components. He added that previous experiences have proved the failure of policies that is shaped on dictatorship.
"We believe that this holiday is an appropriate opportunity to emphasize on behalf of the Kurdish parties the need to establish the principle of partnership and brotherhood in governance," Mamand said.
"We extend the hand of brotherhood to other components in Kirkuk. We call on the federal government to accelerate the normalization of the situation in Kirkuk," he added.
