The US Embassy in Baghdad
said that a delegation from the US House Committee on Armed Forces visited
Baghdad and Erbil to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.
The embassy said that the Iraqi government told the delegation it is important the US forces remaining Iraq within the global coalition against ISIS.
The embassy's statement stressed the need to respect the Iraqi sovereignty while working with the Iraqi security forces, to achieve the common goal of ensuring the permanent defeat of violent extremist organizations including ISIS
The statement said that the delegation consists of members of the US Congress, including John Garamendi, Deb Haaland and Veronica Escobar.
The delegation met in Baghdad with Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi, and Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi. It also met in Erbil with Kurdistan Regional Government head Nechirvan Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.
