The Iraqi Central Criminal Court has sentenced a Belgian-national to death by hanging over affiliation to ISIS.
During the court session on Monday, the judge read parts of the written confession by the 23-year old Bilal al-Marshouhi, who is one tens of foreigners who faces the same penalty in Iraq. The court also displayed a video and photos showing his affiliation to the extremist group.
Marshouhi had previously denied the accusations levelled against him at the court, saying he should not stand trial in Iraq and called for trial in Belgium.
However, the judge said the photos are considered a clear evidence on being an ISIS member.
Representatives from the Belgian consulate attended the court session.
Meanwhile in Brussels, the Belgian Foreign Ministry said it’s unable to make an immediate comment on the case of Marshouhi, who is the second Belgian to be sentenced to death in Iraq over ISIS affiliation.
