Erbil to pay off 23b IQD in debt to Iranian companies in Kurdistan

The Iranian consulate in Erbil announced on Sunday the approval of the Kurdistan Regional Government to pay 23 billion IQD, as part of debts owed to Iranian companies operating in Kurdistan.

Morteza Ebadi, the Iranian consul general in Erbil held a meeting with Rebaz Hamlan, the finance minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, during which Hamlan pledged to pay off 20% of these debts, a statement by the consulate read.

The consulate referred to the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Kurdistan on January 15, accompanied by an Iranian trade delegation. The Iranian side met with Nechirvan Barzani, KRG prime minister, and asked Kurdistan to pay off the debts, the statement added.
